In mid-November, I flew to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I picked up a used, red Mazda Miata, something my wife has wanted for years. I found it on the internet and was pleased that it was only 800 miles away--most of the Miatas are in "warm" states like Florida, Texas, or California.
On my way back to Bismarck, I stopped at
The House on the Rock in south
central Wisconsin. Our family visited the place in 1996 when we
were en route to nephew Jon Wolfe's wedding.
The entrance to the attraction features these strange sculptures.
I would estimate these are 10 - 12 feet tall.
The house was built by Alex Jordan in the 1940s. He later added this
unique structure called the Infinity Room. It extends 218 feet out and over the
Wyoming Valley.
This is the inside view of the entrance to the Infinity Room. Thankfully, it was
not a windy day as the room is perched 156 above the valley floor and I am not
accustomed to having things move underfoot [I would make a lousy southern
Californian].
One building after another was added to the original house. These buildings
contain the strangest collection of artifacts and memorabilia I've seen
anywhere.
Some are mundane, like this exhibit of early motorized transportation.
Some are not. This 200-foot sea creature is depicted in a struggle with a giant
octopus.
