After spending a year in the Anbar Province of Iraq, spending much of that time riding as gunner in a humvee on convoys looking for IEDs [Improvised Explosive Devices], Reed returned to his station in Bamburg, Germany in November.  He took a well-deserved side trip to Norway a couple of weeks ago.

Reed spent most of his time with Pam's cousin, Gunnar and his wife Feli.  Here they dine out in Oslo.  Reed said the reindeer was awesome.

At the Viking Ships Museum, Reed stands next to the Gokstad, a 72-foot boat built around 890 A.D.

Gunnar and Feli took Reed to the village of Eidfjord where Reed's great grandfather was born and lived before emigrating to Maddock, North Dakota.  They slept in Anna Vik's home.  Anna, shown here with Reed, is Gunnar's mother.  Pam and I stayed at Anna's house when we visited in 1999.

Gunnar's brother, Endre, lives in Bergen with his wife Astrid and their two boys, above.  They came east to Eidfjord for the weekend.

I hope to post more photos from Norge soon.
