Firemann Legreid

is helping his son, Harold, bring a bit of Eidfjord, Norway to East Battle Lake, Minnesota.  Let me explain.  Several years ago, Harold and his wife Linda bought a cabin on East Battle Lake.  They have steadily improved the cabin over the years, putting in a new basement, adding rooms, and remodeling from stem to stern.  Harold's grandfather, Gunder Legreid, was born in Eidfjord, a small community on Norway's Hardanger Fjord.  The house where he grew up is still standing.

A few years ago, Firemann and Harold visited the Eidfjord home.  Harold noted the woodwork in the structure and later decided to replicate it, in part.  He wanted a railing for the second-floor deck at his lake cabin.  So he enlisted Firemann to help make the pieces.  Below Firemann sets to the task.

Firemann built a jig to hold each piece, then cut out pieces with the drill press.

Firemann explains the next step in his process to friends Amy and Hank Wisness.

These are some of the 36 pieces Firemann will eventually complete

Firemann shows two of the completed railing boards.

Next summer, with any luck, I'll take some photos of the cabin so you can see the finished product in place.
