Mary
Lois Dick was born October 11, 1919 in Bismarck, the daughter of Charles and
Helen Dick. She grew up and
attended school in Courtenay, ND. She
received her bachelor’s degree from Valley City State Teachers College in 1941
and moved to Maddock where she taught high school English for many years.
She married Firemann Legreid on June 3, 1945, at North Viking Lutheran in
Maddock. They moved to Bismarck in
1997.
Mary
Lois took great pride in her family and focused most of her energy and attention
on them. In addition, she was an
avid bridge player and had been active in Sons of Norway and Golden K.
In Maddock she was involved in church activities, Viking Homemakers and
the country club. Although she had
no Norwegian heritage, she assimilated the strong ethnic ties of her husband and
community and became adept at preparing many Norwegian specialty foods.
Survivors
include her loving husband of fifty-six years, Firemann, Bismarck; two sons,
Harold (Linda), Fargo, and Brad (Sherry), Bismarck, and one daughter Pam (Jim)
Vukelic, Bismarck, and six grandchildren, Brent (Andrea) Legreid, Anna (Jeff)
Lindlief, Jacob Morgan and Janell Legreid, and Reed and Meredith Vukelic.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Sarah Scott Dick,
and two brothers, Robert and William Dick.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to North Viking Lutheran Church, Shiloh Christian School or a charity of your choice.
The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.
