A few weeks ago, I received an email from my nephew, Jonathan Wolfe, a golf pro working in Long Island, New York.  He said golf traffic slows down in the fall and if I wanted to come out, he'd treat me to golf on a fine course and put me up.  I had some frequent flyer miles saved up for a free ticket so I jumped at the chance.  A taxi arrived at 3:30 a.m. to take me to the airport.  I didn't know flights left Bismarck at that godforsaken hour.  By 1:30 p.m., Jonathan and I were standing on the first tee of The Creek Club in Locust Valley.

The greens were incredibly slippery compared to my home course, something like 11 on the Stimpmeter.  That is why I was incredibly impressed with Jon's ability to get up and down from his lie behind the green in the photo above.

Toward the north end of the course, two holes run next to the Long Island Sound.  I managed to avoid the surf on #10 but double-bogeyed it anyway.

During our first round on Thursday, Michelle joined us on the back nine.  She golfs on St. John University's team and helped Jonathan with golf lessons this summer.  She is shown teeing off on the par 3 number 11 which has a unique green.

This photo of the 11th green gives a better perspective of what makes the hole unique.  From front to back, the green is 83 yards long!  I've never seen anything like it.

Michelle readies her shot on #13.  The ball a couple of feet ahead of Michelle's is mine.  It was the last time I out-drove her that round.

Jon tees off on the back nine.
