Mere is busy booking it for her Professional Responsibility exam. Every aspiring attorney must pass this test which covers a multitude of ethical rules governing the legal profession. Back in the day, this was part of the bar exam but now it is a separate test. Although students can re-test [for a fee], they must pass the PR exam to be licensed in any state. The bar exam, or remainder of it, will be given next summer.
When she's not studying, Mere spends most of her time working in UND's Legal Clinic. She is one of the student directors this year and is getting excellent hands-on experience. Although legal documents are reviewed by a lawyer/supervisor, the real work is done by students. They interview clients, prepare subpoenaes, motions, briefs, and fully participate in hearings, usually in state district courts. My first experience cross-examining a witness was as a student working in UND's Legal Aid Clinic. I daresay Meredith will be much better prepared for the real world than I was upon graduating from law school.

Student directors at UND's Legal Clinic - Fall 2009
After reviewing the web site devoted to the Legal Clinic, I asked Mere whether there were any men attending law school these days.
This past summer, Mere worked for Legal Services North Dakota. One small part of her duties there involved writing an article for LSND's newsletter. I've reproduced it below.
