Mr. and Mrs. Duck are out for a stroll.  There's nothing unusual about seeing ducks in North Dakota.

What is a bit out of the ordinary is seeing them in your backyard located in the middle of Bismarck.

I was mowing the lawn when I spotted the couple.  I got off the mower, got my camera, and stalked the duo.  They didn't seem too concerned about me so long as I stayed 30 feet away from them.

They seemed to enjoy the rain water which accumulated on our pool cover.  When I started up the mower again, they sauntered over behind the shed and then disappeared.

A week earlier, Pam spotted this colorful bird in our patio.  I'm no ornithologist and have no clue what kind of bird it is but I do know I've never seen one like it in North Dakota.

And speaking of birdies, my friend Nick Kjos and I teamed up for Apple Creek Country Club's Two-Man Best Ball tournament last weekend [June 7-8, 2008].  We shot a gross score of 76, net 65, on Saturday.  I thought this was probably as good as we could play but we were tied for fourth place with that score.  On Sunday, Nick got hot.  He had two birdies on the front nine and oodles of pars.  On the few holes when he didn't score well, I happened to have good ones.  We ended up shooting a gross score of 72 and a net 61.  Our total, 126, was three strokes better than the next closest team.

The champs pose next to a plaque in the clubhouse where our names will join those of previous winners.
