The Greater Halvorson Open kicked off in Fargo, the weekend of July 9, 2004.  It was the 20th Anniversary of the annual event, for which Scott Halvorson can take credit as its progenitor and perennial organizer.

This handsome crew posed on Sunday, July 11, at Bjornson Golf Club in Valley City.  How we ended up there will be explained directly.

Here, in Bismarck, Scott is "Mr. Rules."  Not because he knows the Rules of Golf, at least not the ones printed in any USGA booklet, but because he is never at a loss for making them up.  He is, to be fair, a great organizer and went to considerable lengths to make sure the trains ran on time.  Here, Scott gives everyone some last minute instructions before his foursome started the scramble at Edgewood Golf Course in north Fargo.

"The Big Bomber," Dale Hoerauf, tees off on the first hole at Edgewood.  He and I both found the forest beyond the left side of the fairway with our drives.  According to Dale's coach and mentor [Scott], Dale learned to throttle back his swing on Sunday and was hitting 300-yard drives with his new Callaway driver.

By far, the best looking, if not the best performing quartet on the course Saturday were Yours Truly, Mike Naas, Wayne & "Doc"

Dave Cantrell and Vaughn Hedstrom enjoy the 19th hole.

Nick Kjos holes out on 18 while best ball partner, David Aaser, looks on.  This twosome won the event.

David [right] swaps lies with Gary Martinson [left] and Bob Broten [middle].

Saturday night brought a huge thunderstorm and torrential rain, almost 2" in less than an hour.  South 13th Avenue, just west of Wasted Acres, was a lake.  But the sun came out Sunday morning as the crew headed a few miles west of Fargo to Mapleton.
