Blues Fest 2004

It was much nicer out on Saturday afternoon, though a little windy.

Booths set up around the perimeter of the field attracted fans, particularly during the breaks between bands.

Jimmy Thackery and The Drivers have been playing together since 1992 but his musical biography dates to the 60s when he played in a band with Bonnie Raitt's brother, David.

The guitar/sax duet was particularly powerful. Jimmy Carpenter wields the sax.

A fan sketches some of the band members.

Jimmy Thackery performed a Hendrix-style version of The Star Spangled Banner.

It went over well with this eclectic crowd.

Applause and appreciation, a successful musician's diet.

If you were wondering where the free spirits of the 60s went, I couldn't tell you.  But I know where several of them were on August 21, 2004.

As in the "old days," the long hairs co-existed with the bikers and beer freaks.

The audience gears up for Coco Montoya.

Here's Coco.

Toward the end of Coco's gig, he invited Jimmy to join him on stage.

The two obviously enjoyed playing together, but not as much as the crowd did listening to them.

With any luck, by now Coco Montoya's "Talkin' Woman Blues" is playing in the background.

Jimmy enjoys visiting with a fan in the autograph tent following his concert.

After Jimmy and Coco finished, there was a 15-minute break while the stage hands set up for the evening's headliner, Lonnie Brooks.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature intervened in the way of lightning and rain.  The event closed early.  But before we left, Dale suggested a photo moment along the ball diamond fence where advertising abounds.

Here's a big hot dog [the one on the right].
