For September 21, it was a balmy 74 degrees by noon. The leaves had not choked the fairways at Riverwood yet and the course was in great shape.

Eight golfers were split into two-man teams on the front nine. The format involved 3 holes of scramble play, 3 holes of alternate shot play, and 3 holes of best ball. During the alternate shot play, Charlie hit one into the "high juice" as Leon Ripplinger used to say. His partner, Bob, stares forlornly at the site of his next shot.
Although it looks like he's cutting hay with a scythe, Bob actually moved the ball out of the thick grass to a spot close to the green on #6.
Mike Heilman, photographer extraordinaire, caught the ball flying off the club head as I teed off on #2. I parred that hole, I'm proud to say.

The Dark Side: Mike Heilman, Nick Kjos, Dale Hoerauf, Dennis Steele, and Jerry Renner
Front nine results: Mike defeated Gary 2 and 1. The team of Nick and Dennis tied the team of Bob and Chuck. The team of Dale and Jerry tied the team of Dave and Scott.
Back nine results: Dave defeated Mike, Gary defeated Nick, Bob and Dale pushed, Scot defeated Dennis, and Check defeated Jerry.
Afterwards, the group came over for some chili. Scott waxes eloquently about something, much to the amusement of his "fans."
Dave sports the cap awarded to the overall winner of the tournament. All hail Dave, the 2008 Vukelic Cup Champion.
