The Vukelic Cup competition continued with players enjoying the rivalry--well, most of the time, anyway.

Dennis stares down a putt on #7.  During the season we play a game Nick brought to us called, "Greenies, polees, birdies, and sandies" or something like that.  If you make a putt longer than the length of the flagstick, that is a polee, and in our game it is worth 25 cents [Big gamblers, we].  Getting up and down out of the sand is worth two-bits; getting a birdie is worth two-bits; and hitting the tee shot closest to the pin on a par 3 is worth two-bits.  Oh, and you lose 25 cents every time you get a cobra [3-putt].  The one who typically cleans up in this game is Dennis, who has earned the nickname, "ATM," or simply "Ka-ching" for short.

Larry, a fellow Mottonian, shows off some of that Hettinger County power on #6.  My goofy rule this year was that all players had to tee off on this short par 4 using a wedge.  The winner of that long drive contest, Russ Hanson [on the left in this photo], smacked his drive 149 yards.  Yikes!

Nick shows the form envied by all of us that allows for his long, straight shots.  Big show-off!

Doug tees of on #5.  Doesn't that water look inviting?

Dale found himself playing from a nasty lie on #7.  "A fiery horse, a cloud of dust, and a hearty Hi-O-Silver." [Those under 40 are going, "Huh?"]

When the dust settled, Dave and Nick played to a tie as did Scott and Chuck.  Dale defeated Doug, Bob F defeated Russ, Bob T defeated Dennis, and Mike defeated Larry.  The overall point winner and 2009 Vukelic Cup Champion was--drum roll, please--

Bob Tonolli
