The Fourth
Annual Vukelic Cup featured ten of the best competitors from Bismarck - Mandan.
Okay, let's just say it highlighted the talents of ten of the best golfers who
were willing to participate. Here was the line-up.
The Dark Side consisted of Bob Freed, Chuck Ortlip, Scott Halvorson, Nick Kjos and Curt Dahme. [Boo! Hiss!]

The Force included Mike Heilman, Dennis Steele, Yours Truly [playing the air guitar for some strange reason], Dave Cantrell and Dale Hoerauf. ["Let's hear it for the good guys!" Applause.]

Dave gives some advice before the tourney got underway.

On the first nine-hole trek around Mandan's Municipal Golf Course, we played a scramble. Chuck and Nick took on Mike, Dennis and Dale. Here, Nick puts the finishing touch on a two-hole victory for The Dark Side.

In the other scramble contest, Dave and I took on Bob, Scott, and Curt. We got
one extra putt on each hole but only used it three times and both of us were pretty
hot. Dave made three long putts to win or halve a hole; I chipped in once
and putted in from the fringe to help our team log a one-hole victory for The
Force.
It was all even going into the second round where players used 3 clubs only in a head-to-head match play event.

There were hazards lurking everywhere. And it you look closely ...

You'll see why no one would enter these shark-infested waters to retrieve an errant golf ball. North Dakota is more than a thousand miles from the nearest ocean so that fin may have been a cleverly disguised wind vane, but who knows?
