Vukelic Cup 2003 [continued]

On the back nine there were five head-to-head matches.  Bruce and Nick headed out first and we never saw Bruce after that.  Some say he went up to the Community Bowl where he practiced his timekeeping skills in preparation for the next football game.  Others say he went out to feed the hogs, slipped, fell, and they ate him.  We may never know.  But, unfortunately for The Force, he bested Nick in their match.

V7.JPG (80889 bytes)  Jim Potter demonstrates great form on this shot.  He and Leon struggled back and forth through their whole match until #15.

V10.JPG (114224 bytes)  This treacherous little par-3 hole had a nasty break to it.  Leon needed this putt to win the hole and take the lead in the match.  A bright moment for The Force shone when Leon's putt narrowly missed on the right side.

V4.JPG (107331 bytes)  Jim just kept plugging along and took the match by winning the next two holes to defeat Leon 2 and 1.  Here Jim demonstrates how to gauge the distance from ball to target.  [You scoff, Darksiders, but he won his match!]

V9.JPG (121687 bytes)  In other contests, Jim defeated Scott 2 and 1.  Dale defeated Dennis 2 and 1.  Dave, shown at left teeing off on #10 played a tough match against Curt Dahme.

V8.JPG (143643 bytes)  Curt, also shown on #10, fought Dave to tie.  Final tally:  The Force - 10.5, The Darkside - 19.5.  The Force vowed to regroup, practice hard, and whup their opponents next year.

V11.JPG (128921 bytes)  After last year's post-tournament gathering at Vukelic's, Jim promised better weather and more chili in 2003.  He delivered on both counts.

V12.JPG (120899 bytes)  Jim awarded prizes to The Darkside team and for Closest to the Pin on #12 [Dennis], Most Bunker Shots [Dale], Most Strokes on the #10 [Dennis], and Most Putts on #18 [tie, won by Curt]. The overall point winner was Dale [6 points].

V13.JPG (114132 bytes)  There were also a few gag gifts, including this bag of Pansy Food for our "Senior" member.  Dave takes advantage of the benefits of Codgerdom by playing from the gold tees [and consistently wins our bets].  For a tribute to Dave, see the lyrics you'll find here.
