Syttende Mai,
Norway's Independence Day, was celebrated again this year with a picnic and
program at the Sons of Norway Park in south Bismarck. It was a bit chilly
with a northwest breeze blowing most of the day, but the sun shone and spirits
were festive.
A group of Sons of Norway members entertained the crowd with a few songs, some
in Norwegian.
There was plenty of food at the potluck but, surprisingly, no red jello.
Go figure.
A miniature stabbur, recently donated to the park, was dedicated.
Part of the program activities included a gift of a flower to a relative of
members who had died since last May 17. Firemann was out of town with
Linda and Harold, so Pam accepted the flower in memory of her mother, Mary Lois
Legreid.
One of the highlights of the event each year is the concluding parade around the
park. Note the youngster playing fiddle. That's Sig Peterson, who
has been filling the role since time immemorial. He celebrated his 90th
birthday some time ago. Uffda!
