Connor James
Vukelic was born in the wee hours of January 29, 2012.
Mollie went to the hospital two days earlier for her weekly
checkup and medical personnel advised her to stick around. She
was put in a room typically shared with another patient but ended up
having the room to herself. Reed described security at the
hospital saying he needed to be recognized over camera and have
clearance before being buzzed into the maternity ward.
After a fairly lengthy labor, Connor arrived. Reed held
his breath for a few seconds while the obstetrician coaxed the first WAAAHH out of Connor. Then it was all smiles and relief.
Pam found our first photo
of Reed shown below. He was born at what is now known as the West
River Regional Medical Center. Back in 1981, we called it the
Hettinger Hospital. Pam relates how a meeting with Dr.
Roger Shauer, who delivered Reed, started out. "He's got a small
hole in his heart, hip dysplasia, and is tongue-tied [short
lingual frenulum], but other than that is a healthy boy." Our
hearts sank! Pam abstained from alcohol during pregnancy and never, never
engaged in illegal drug activity. Was it my imagination or did she
cast a suspicious look toward the other genetic contributor. Turned out the doc was right. The hole healed
itself quickly; the hip dysplasia was fixed with a short regimen of
double-diapering; and a quick snip of the scissors took care of the
tongue. Look at what a fine physical specimen he's become.
Grandma and Grandpa will get to see Connor in person very soon.
More pics guaranteed.
